Scarborough Arts event

Performing at a Scarborough Arts event. (Kat Rizza)

This spring, I have some exciting opportunities and adventures coming up! Some of these opportunities include speaking at The Walrus Talks in Fredericton on April 24, where I’ll be exploring the complexities of being LGBTQ+ and racialized in Christian and Catholic communities. The talk will be live streamed and filmed, so be sure to tune in!

I’m looking forward to working with youth and hearing the conversations happening in their schools and communities. I’ll be performing and doing workshops at Halton District School Board’s GSA Conference and the Girl Guides of Canada National Conference.

I’m also giving a keynote at the Toronto Catholic District School Board’s fourth Inclusion and Belonging Retreat for LGBTQ+ youth and allies. It has been exciting to see how much growth has happened in these spaces since I spoke at their first conference several years ago, which you can read about here. Although many steps have been made to create safe, inclusive and equitable spaces for LGBTQ+ youth in Catholic schools, there’s still a lot of work to be done.

In May, I’ll be performing at C2UExpo’s biennial conference in Vancouver as the conference storyteller. The conference showcases best practices in community-campus partnerships worldwide, bringing together research, knowledge and relationships to strengthen their communities. I’m looking forward to highlighting the exciting work happening in these spaces through spoken word.
